Club Notes – 18 October 2018

Shoe City SFL Clontibret 3-13 Ballybay 2-12
In the penultimate game of the season we claimed some valuable league points in Ballybay on Sunday with a four point win over the recent county finalists. It was a gritty all-round team performance played at a heart stopping pace by both sides. Early wides aside we took a first half lead with a Ballybay goal quickly cancelled by a Conor McManus penalty following a foul on MP O’Dowd while a second goal from Conor following a pass from Vinny Corey gave us a three point half time advantage. The game was won in a blistering third quarter with some excellent points from Conor Mc, Brian Greenan, MP O’Dowd, Pauric Boyle and Cormac Boyle capped by a third Mansy goal. With Dessie Mone now off injured Ballybay gained some upper hand for a series of points and a Chris McGuinness goal to bring the margin back to one but the team rallied to score the last three points to claim a well-earned victory. Last game of the league is with Blayney on 28th October.

New Pitch and Track
Work has been progressing favourably on our new development over the past few weeks. The new full size Prunty Pitch has now been laid, the seeds have been sown and hopefully the grass will be growing over the coming weeks. The 1km walking track which will be fully lit is currently being laid around the outer perimeter of both the new pitch and the existing pitch and should be ready by the end of the month. This of course means that we now move on to the next phase which is the erection of perimeter fencing, balls stops, goal posts and dug outs. To help fund this we will be looking for another year’s contribution from our Clontibret Our Future members and your promoter will be calling with you soon in the coming weeks. Try to be as generous again this year as you have been in the past as much great work has been done and we now want to see it completed.

Intermediate and Minor Finals
It’s a big day at O’Neill Park on Sunday with both the MFC and IFC finals down for decision. First up at 1.30pm it’s the minor final replay between Inniskeen and Carrickmacross followed at 3.30pm by the Intermediate final between Doohamlet and Seans and may well bring the biggest crowd of the year to O’Neill Park for what is the last big championship game. The usual stewards are asked to put the shoulder to the wheel one more time with a few early men required from 12 noon to get the parking set up right.
