Championship Celebration and Presentation

The presentation of championship medals will be held at a celebratory dinner in the Four Seasons hotel on New Years Eve 31st December. This will be a unique event for our club with the emphasis on celebrating and honouring the group of players and managers who helped bring back the Mick Duffy Cup after a four year absence. Player of the Year awards at Senior (Killian Lavelle), Reserve (Cormac Boyle) and Young Player (Eli Ward) level will be presented. Speechifying will be at a minimum with all wrapped up in time to welcome in the New Year. Tickets will be on sale shortly so don’t miss out on what will be both a club and family celebration.

The Packie McCully Cup

Well done to Magheracloone who were presented with the Packie McCully Cup as winners of the Ulster Intermediate club championship at the week end. Packie McCully was a founder member and chief organiser of Clontibret O’Neills when the club was re founded in 1944 after an absence of eight years and he acted as Secretary and Treasurer for the following 16 years. Following his untimely death in 1974 the club put up the Packie McCully Cup in his honour to be played for at Under14 level between the three clubs in the parish. As juvenile competitions in the county became more organised this competition fell into abeyance and the cup was not competed for until 1998 when the club organised the Ulster Intermediate Club championship with Liatroim Fontenoys (An Dun) being the first winners. This completion was successfully run by the club for the following five seasons until it became an official Comhairle Uladh competition in 2004 with the Packie McCully cup as the official trophy.
